Khushi Patel Awarded the 2021 Stir Scholarship Award

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

Stir Scholarship Recipient Profile: Khushi Patel

During the 2020-2021 school year, the Stir Scholarship committee awarded inaugural scholarships to three young women who will be pursuing college degrees in computer software. These women come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. We asked them to tell us about themselves and will be highlighting them in the coming weeks. We hope that reading their stories will inspire other young women to pursue software degrees and apply for the Stir Scholarship.

The third scholarship recipient we’re highlighting is Khuski Patel. Khushi graduated from Dublin Scioto High School. She will attend The Ohio State University and work toward a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science & Engineering. Here are some things Khushi told Stir Scholarship President Cassandra Faris about herself:

Cassandra: How did you hear about this scholarship?

Khushi: I heard about the Stir Scholarship through a family friend who recommended I apply.

Cassandra: What motivated you to study technology?

Khushi: I was motivated to study technology because technology is the future. Technology is constantly evolving and will always be a part of our lives.

Cassandra: Why do you enjoy programming?

Khushi: I enjoy programming because I love problem solving. I truly enjoy the challenges that come with finding solutions to different problems.

Cassandra: What are your favorite extracurriculars?

Khushi: My favorite extracurriculars are playing tennis, sewing, and volunteering with Make-A-Wish.

Cassandra: What do you like to do for fun?

Khushi: For fun, I like to go on runs, watch movies, and spend time with my family.

To apply for the scholarship, each applicant wrote an essay about how they plan to change the world with technology. In her essay, Khushi talked about how she’s always been drawn to technology and how it can make life easier for all of us. Here is an excerpt from that essay:

“Java, HTML, C#, and Python: the programming languages that turned my curiosity into passion. My excitement, which was once just submerging myself in Youtube programming tutorials, became teaching myself how to create complicated games and websites. I had inevitably unearthed an appreciation for computer science: the neverending resolution to my problem solving obsession. To me, computer science is more than a study of computers; it is a science that serves as a stepping stone between my natural interests and the 21st century future.”

Khushi’s natural curiosity and drive to solve problems was clear throughout her essay. She has a particular interest in data science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. These are in-demand skills that will help her go far in her educational and professional technical careers.
